Narayaneeyam is a Sanskrit devotional text composed by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri in the 16th century. It is a condensed version of the Bhagavata Purana, focusing on the life, divine leelas (pastimes), and glory of Lord Vishnu, particularly in his Krishna avatar.
It consists of 1036 verses, divided into 100 chapters (called dasakams).
The text summarizes the 18,000 verses of the Bhagavata Purana, highlighting major stories like the creation of the universe, incarnations of Vishnu, and Krishna's divine plays.
It is known for its poetic excellence and deep devotion (bhakti) towards Guruvayurappan, a form of Lord Krishna.
Tradition holds that Bhattathiri, suffering from paralysis, composed Narayaneeyam at the Guruvayur temple and was cured by divine grace upon its completion.
Even today, Narayaneeyam is recited for spiritual upliftment and healing, especially at the Guruvayur temple in Kerala.
